21st Birthday Cake

I made this cake for two of my friends 21st Birthdays. They wanted to have them both on the cake, one doing the Pukana and the other was suppose to be hanging up the washing but I found it really hard to make the figures standing up so I made her sitting down by the washing line with a bunch of book. I think it turned out really great but will make sure I use a better glue next time cause the heads and eyes were starting to fall off at the end of the night. I doubled my Chocolate Cake Recipe for the cake then covered it in my Favourite Ganache recipe from Planet Cake.

Chocolate Ganache
Adapted From Planet Cake.

300g Nestle Dark Chocolate
150mls Cream

Place chocolate and cream in a bowl and melt in the microwave for 1 minute stir then place back in the microwave again for 30 seconds until chocolate has melted. Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes or until firm and cooled. Once cooled its ready to use.

Ruffled Princess Tiara Cake

This is my latest cake a Princess Tiara cake, I usually cover my cakes in fondant but I wanted to try the Ruffled technique with Swiss meringue buttercream, which you can find the recipe here in one of my other posts.

I got the idea for the tiara from one of my searches on Pinterest. The tiara's made from fondant mixed with Wiltons gum-tex so it would dry nice and hard.

The ruffled flowers are also made from fondant and gum-tex.

Angry Birds Cake

Heres the second cake I made this weekend an Angry Birds cake. The client also ask if I could make 10 cupcake toppers and for the cake to be neapolitan colors and flavour. I havent found the perfect vanilla cake recipe yet so I heard you can doctor up cake mixes with intant pudding so thought I'll give it a go. The cakes turned out nice and moist and a little denser then a usual cake mix. So if you want to give it a go just buy Betty Crockers cake mix and instant pudding in same flavour. I forgot to take a photo of all the flavours I used I only took a photo of the chocolate flavour Yummy.

Leopard Print Cake

The customer asked for a Leopard Print cake so I was looking on the web thinking of all the different ways I could do this there was three ways I was thinking if doing it 1) cut out bits of black fondant and roll them into the nude colour fondant 2) airbrush the design, I dont own a airbrush machine so that ones out or 3) Hand paint it on the cake. So I went with number 3 hand paint it. So i'd been on youtube looking at all the tutorials and got started 1st dilemma I didnt make the black foodcolour paint dark enough so did two coats of that 2nd my fondant I covered the cake with was going sticky and wet from the cold cake underneath so it wasnt looking to good at one point, so after it all dryed I think it turned out ok.

Blues Clues Cake

Heres one of my recent cakes I made for a little girl who was turning five and loved Blues Clues. All figurines are made from fondant mixed with Wilton Gum-Tex so they dry nice and hard, its a Moist chocolate cake covered in Ganache then fondant. I found a great tutorial on youtube to make Blues Clues.

High Heel cupcakes

I made these chocolate cupcakes for a Hens party. I used a chocolate high heel mold to get the shape of the high heel by pushing fondant into the mold, you need to dust mold with cornflour first to make sure it comes out with ease.

Maori Design Cupcakes

I made 60 Vanilla and Chocolate cupcakes for Massey Universitys Maori Orientation day. I found a stamp in the craft isle at the warehouse and used that to push into the fondant to get that design.
